Location: Midland, TX
Compensation: Up to $30/hour, depending on experience

Position Summary

A professional legal office in Midland, TX is seeking a dependable and detail-oriented Legal Assistant to provide administrative and case support to attorneys. This position will assist with document preparation, court filings, scheduling, client communication, case file management, and general legal office administration.

The ideal candidate is highly organized, professional, comfortable managing confidential information, and able to prioritize multiple deadlines in a fast-paced environment. Previous experience in a law firm or legal setting is preferred, with litigation experience considered a strong plus.

Key Responsibilities

  • Type, format, proofread, edit, and file legal documents and correspondence
  • Prepare and file documents with courts, government agencies, and opposing counsel
  • Answer and direct phone calls, emails, and faxes from clients, witnesses, court staff, and other parties
  • Manage attorney calendars, including scheduling appointments, hearings, depositions, meetings, and deadlines
  • Organize and maintain accurate physical and electronic case files
  • Transcribe attorney dictation and prepare correspondence and legal documentation
  • Assist with basic legal research and verification of case citations
  • Track important case dates, filing deadlines, and court requirements
  • Assist with attorney expense reports, timekeeping, and client billing
  • Maintain accurate client and matter information
  • Handle sensitive client and firm information with a high level of confidentiality
  • Provide general administrative support to attorneys and other members of the firm as needed

Qualifications

  • Previous administrative, legal assistant, legal secretary, or law firm experience preferred
  • Litigation experience is a plus
  • Strong typing, proofreading, grammar, and document-formatting skills
  • Excellent attention to detail and organizational skills
  • Ability to manage multiple priorities, deadlines, and attorney calendars
  • Professional written and verbal communication skills
  • Comfortable communicating with clients, attorneys, court personnel, and outside parties
  • Proficiency with Microsoft Office, including Word, Outlook, and Excel
  • Experience with electronic court filing systems and legal practice management or billing software is a plus
  • Ability to maintain discretion and confidentiality at all times
