SEC Reporting Accountant

Our client, a publicly traded energy company, is seeking an SEC Reporting Accountant to join its corporate accounting and financial reporting team. This is an excellent opportunity for a public accountant looking to transition into industry or an experienced financial reporting professional seeking exposure to SEC reporting within a dynamic, growth-oriented organization.

The ideal candidate will have approximately 3+ years of public accounting experience or a combination of public accounting and SEC financial reporting experience. This position offers significant visibility within the organization and the opportunity to work closely with executive leadership, external auditors, and cross-functional finance teams.

Work Schedule:
In-office position with a highly attractive schedule of four 9-hour workdays and a half-day on Fridays.

Key Responsibilities

  • Assist in the preparation and filing of SEC reports, including Forms 10-K, 10-Q, 8-K, proxy statements, Section 16 filings, and other required disclosures.
  • Prepare and maintain supporting schedules, workpapers, and documentation for financial reporting and audit requirements.
  • Coordinate with Accounting, Tax, Treasury, FP&A, Legal, Investor Relations, and external auditors to ensure timely and accurate reporting.
  • Perform detailed tie-outs and review procedures for SEC filings and related financial reporting deliverables.
  • Support the quarterly earnings release process and related reporting requirements.
  • Review peer company filings and reporting practices to identify best practices and opportunities for process improvement.
  • Assist with XBRL tagging review and validation of financial statements and footnote disclosures.
  • Prepare GAAP and SEC disclosure checklists and assist with technical accounting research and documentation.
  • Support the implementation of new accounting standards and other special projects as needed.
  • Contribute to continuous improvement initiatives related to financial reporting processes and internal controls.

Qualifications

  • Bachelor’s degree in Accounting required.
  • 3+ years of public accounting, SEC reporting, or financial reporting experience.
  • Strong knowledge of U.S. GAAP, SEC reporting requirements, and internal controls.
  • Advanced Microsoft Excel skills, including Pivot Tables, VLOOKUPs/XLOOKUPs, and complex formulas.
  • Exceptional attention to detail with strong organizational and analytical skills.
  • Ability to manage multiple deadlines and thrive in a fast-paced reporting environment.
  • Strong written and verbal communication skills.

Preferred Qualifications

  • CPA designation.
  • Experience with SEC reporting for a publicly traded company.
  • Oil & gas or energy industry experience.
  • Experience with Workiva or similar SEC reporting software.
  • Prior experience preparing technical accounting memos and disclosure documentation.

Compensation & Benefits
$85,000-$105,000
LTI: 15% STI: 15%
